Sweet Victory

The winner takes all
It's the thrill of one more kill
The last one to fall will never sacrifice their will

Don't ever look back on the world closing in
Be on the attack with your wings on the wind
The games will begin

And it's sweet victory
It's ours for the taking, it’s ours for the fight
And it's sweet victory
And the one who's last to fall
The winner takes all

You don't win no silver
You only lose the gold
You push with a fever for your time keeps tolling on

Against all the odds, against all your pain
Your back’s on the wall with no one to blame
Wild hearts won't be tamed

And it's sweet victory
It's ours for the taking, it’s ours for the fight
And it's sweet victory
And the one who's last to fall
The winner takes all

Take it!
(guitar solo)

And the one's who's last to fall

Sweet victory
It's ours for the taking, it’s ours for the fight
And it's sweet victory
And the one who's last to fall
The winner takes all

Loop De Loop

Want to learn how to tie your shoe?
It's a very easy thing to do.
Sit on down and I'll give you the scoop.
What's that?
It's called a loop-de-loop!

You take a lace in each hand.
You go over and under again.
You make a loop de loop and pull,
And your shoes are looking cool.
Let's repeat it again,

You go over and back,
Left to right,
Loop de loop
And you pullin' 'em tight!

Like bunny ears
Or a Christmas bow.
Lace 'em up
And you're ready to go!

You make a loop de loop and pull,
And your shoes are looking cool.
[Instrumental solo]

You make a loop de loop and pull,
And your shoes are looking cool.

Texas Song

Wish I was back in Texas,
The oceans no place for a squirrel.
Wish I was in Texas,
Prettiest place in the world, oh no.
I guess that deep in my heart,
I'll always be a Texas Girl.

I wanna go hooommme hooommmmmme hommme oh oh

Yoldle ay e oh, yodle ay e oh, yodle ay e oh, a lay-ee, a lay-ee.

I wanna wake up in Texas
I miss those wide open skies.
I miss my 20 acres, bar-b-ques,
And pecan pies, oh why?
When I'm so far from you, Texas, all I can do is cry.
I wanna go ho-oome,
Ho-oome,
I wanna go ho-ome!

The F.U.N. Song

SpongeBob:
What is fun? Lemme spell it for ya.
F is for "friends" who do stuff together
U is for "you" and me,
N is for "any"where and "any"time at all,
Down here in the deep blue sea
Plankton:
F is for "fire," that burns down the whole town,
U is for "uranium", bombs!
N is for no survivors,
When you—!!
SpongeBob:
Plankton! Those things aren't what fun is all about! Now, do it like this!
F is for "friends" who do stuff to--
Plankton: Never! That's completely idiotic!
SpongeBob:
Here, let me help you!
F is for "friends" who do stuff together
U is for "you" and me, Try it!
Plankton:
N is for "any"where and "any"time at all,
Down here in the deep blue sea
Plankton: Wait...I don't understand this...I feel all tingly inside...should we stop?
SpongeBob: NO! That's how you're supposed to feel!
Plankton: Well, I like it! LET"S DO IT AGAIN!
SpongeBob: OKAY!!
Both:
F is for "frolic" through all the "flowers"
U is for "ukulele",
N is for "nosepicking", sharing gum, and sand-licking
Here with my best buddy
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan
Krabs: Arrgh! Mutiny.

SpongeBob Scaredypants

All right you guys and ghouls, are you ready?
Yeah!
Well (goes for a long time), who lives near a graveyard under the sea?
SpongeBob, ScardeyPants!
Absorbant and yellow and scary is he!
SpongeBob, ScardeyPants!
If nautical horrors be something you wish?
SpongeBob, ScardeyPants!
Then drop on the deck, and screech like a fish!
SpongeBob, ScardeyPants!
SpongeBob, ScardeyPants (x4)
SpongeBob ScardeyPants (x4, plays quickly)
SpongeBob! ScardeyPants!

Ripped Pants (song)

When I ripped (tear) my pants...
I thought that I had everybody on my side,
But I went and blew it, all sky high.
And now she won't even spare a passing glance,
All just because I ripped my pants.

When big Larry came 'round just to put him down,
SpongeBob turned into a clown.
And no girl ever wants to dance,
With a fool who went and ripped his pants.

I know I shouldn't mope around, I shouldn't curse,
But the pain feels so much worse.
'Cause winding up with no one is a lot less fun,
Than a burn from the sun, or sand in 'your buns!

(shakes)

Now I learned a lesson I won't soon forget, (soon forget)
So listen and you won't regret. (Ohh!)
Be true to yourself, don't miss your chance (miss your chance)
And you won't end up like the fool... who... ripped his pants!

King Neptune

King Neptune (born July 5, 2990 BC, 5,001 years old), is the series' depiction of Neptune, the Roman God of the sea. In the universe of SpongeBob SquarePants, Neptune is the god and supreme ruler of the sea. His name is often used in place of God's, with phrases such as "Dear Neptune" and "Neptune preserve her!". However, he has never explicitly been shown to be worshiped by the creatures of the sea. King Neptune first appeared in the episode "Neptune's Spatula", while a completely different looking Neptune appeared in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Then the same Neptune from Neptune's Spatula appeared in Clash of The Triton. Neptune is voiced by John O'Hurley in the TV series, and by Jeffrey Tambor in the movie. His greek counterpart is Poseidon. He was 5,000 in The Clash of Triton, and he is now 5,001 years old.

Appearances

King Neptune first appeared in the season one episode "Neptune's Spatula", where he appears after SpongeBob pulls the Golden Spatula from the ancient grease, making him Neptune's royal fry cook. However, Neptune refuses to accept such a lowly creature as SpongeBob as the chosen one, and challenges him to a cook-off where, if SpongeBob wins, he will become a god in Atlantis, but if he loses, he must give up fry cooking forever. The challenge is held at the "Poseidome", where the first one to make 1,000 patties wins. Using his godlike powers, Neptune wins the challenge just as SpongeBob finishes his first patty. To celebrate his victory, he gives the patties to the audience, who hate it. Neptune then tastes SpongeBob's patty, and loves it. He declares SpongeBob the winner and makes him a god. However, when SpongeBob learns that his friends can't join him in Atlantis, he does not want to go, and instead makes Neptune his "trainee" at the Krusty Krab. In this episode, Neptune is blue, and has fairly realistic human features, has hair, a mustache, a beard, thick fingers, is very muscular, and has no crown. This version of Neptune also appears in Battle for Bikini Bottom, where he summons SpongeBob and Patrick to the Poseidome to defeat a robot version of Sandy.
In the live-action Patchy the Pirate segment of "Party Pooper Pants", a live-action version of Neptune is at Patchy's party.
Neptune plays a central part in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. The movie also introduces Neptune's daughter, Princess Mindy. This version of Neptune is green-skinned and far more cartoony than the version in "Neptune's Spatula". He is also explicitly portrayed as a king rather than a god, and lives in a palace just outside of Bikini Bottom rather than Atlantis. This Neptune is very brutish and tyrannical, which he tells his daughter is necessary for him to be respected as a ruler. His crown is very important to him, not only because it is a symbol of his power, but because it covers his "thinning" (bald) head. When the crown is stolen by Plankton Neptune attempts to execute Mr. Krabs, who is framed for the crime. In SpongeHenge , Shubie denies Neptune's existence when an anchovy tells her that Neptune must be mad, saying, "Everyone knows Poseidon is the ruler of the undersea."

Johnny Erain

Johnny Erain is the realistic fish head who frequently announces/hosts various news reports and other events in Bikini Bottom. He also sings in the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song. His name was revealed in the Battle for Bikini Bottom video game, where he is the announcer for the main boss fights.
Johnny has also been the announcer at other events, such as the 21st Fry Cook Games. He was the narrator of the King of Karate video in "Karate Island", and voiced the loudspeaker at the Bikini Bottom Zoo in "The Smoking Peanut". In addition to announcing events in Bikini Bottom, Johnny also serves as a news anchorman for the Bikini Bottom News. Most of the news reports he gives are regarding disasters in Bikini Bottom, such as in "Wormy", where he warns the town about the "monster", and in "Nasty Patty," when he reports the warning of a man who pretends to be a health inspector to obtain free food.
The only times where he has ever interacted with the main characters (as he usually only appears on a screen) are in "No Free Rides" and "Procrastination", and both of these were during dream/fantasy sequences. His voice is often heard when he himself is not shown, so it is uncertain if he is speaking during these instances, as in "No Free Rides" and "Suction Cup Symphony", his voice is different from his usual one. He also appears during the theme song, when the line "Then drop on the deck and flop like a fish" is sung. He is voiced by Doug Lawrence, except for "Suction Cup Symphony" where he was voiced by Tom Kenny.
In "The Fry Cook Games" he actually mentions that he is a realistic fish head.

Karen Plankton

Karen is Plankton's wife. A Mark II UNIVAC, she is the main computer system of Plankton's lab, and is often the source of his plots. She is voiced by Tom Kenny's wife, Jill Talley. When they got married, Karen Plankton. Karen usually manifests on the large-screen computer in Plankton's lab, but sometimes acts through a portable wheeled computer. She was first shown in the episode "Plankton!", although in her first appearance she was simply Plankton's talking computer and would not be established as his wife until later on. Karen and Plankton's relationship is a very troubled one. Plankton sometimes does not consider her his true soulmate, and in one episode explains to her that W.I.F.E. stands for "Wired Integrated Female Electroencephalograph". The two frequently argue, and Karen is often very bossy and rude to her husband, having nagging software installed in her. She also thinks Plankton's first name is funny, as shown in "Plankton's Army". Karen is often indifferent to her husband's plots to defeat Mr. Krabs and often shows very half-hearted dedication to his plans for domination over others. Despite their differences, Plankton has said that marrying Karen was the greatest thing that ever happened to him, the second being his Evil Plan Z succeeding. Unlike Plankton, however, Karen shows some degree of dedication for her husband. This is evident whenever she appears, often showing it in the form of assistance in Plankton's schemes, consoling him whenever he's down, and even crying upon Plankton when he told her what W.I.F.E. stands for. It is most likely that Plankton either ignores, or cannot register the acts of kindness that Karen often performs for him, resulting in their various feuds.
Karen is, in some ways, smarter than her husband. A running gag in the series is that while Plankton is contemplating his plans in his lab, Karen will suggest a route of action to him, and he will either not heed her plans or take credit for them.
Karen is a Marc 2 Surplus UNIVAC with 256 gigabytes of RAM, and it has been mentioned that she was a security system before marrying Plankton. In "Goo Goo Gas", when Plankton sprays her with the gas, Karen is turned into a calculator. In "All That Glitters", a monitor that looks exactly like Karen in her portable form is seen in the hospital, and in Shellback Shenanigans he mistakes it for Karen.
In the episode "Single Cell Aniversary" it appears she has an "Emergency Mother-in-law Program," or E.M.I.L.P. for short. She also says that Plankton will someday find the secret formula to the Krabby Patty.

Potty the Parrot

Potty the Parrot is Patchy the Pirate's pet parrot. Potty is a crudely made puppet with very obvious strings. He is very obnoxious, and normally annoys and talks back to Patchy. Potty was originally portrayed by Stephen Hillenburg. After his departure, Paul Tibbitt was given the role. His first appearance was in Christmas Who? and his last appearance was in The Sponge Who Could Fly

Rivalry with Patchy

Potty is the co-host of Patchy the Pirate, and appears in every episode that features him. Despite being labeled as Patchy's and friend, Potty is a frequent pest to Patchy and is often an antagonist in his live-action segments, although they usually make up by the end of the episode. His rivalry with Patchy the Pirate is similar to Bucky B. Khatt and his owner from the popular comic strip Get Fuzzy.
In "Ugh," Potty ruined Patchy's Cave Man Show by becoming a futuristic cyborg and bringing in a robot. At the end of the show, Potty gives Patchy a pet T. Rex as an "apology present". In "Friend or Foe" Potty and Patchy get into a fight while working as fry cooks, temporarily ending their friendship, which makes Patchy upset. Patchy compares this to how Plankton and Mr. Krabs became enemies, starting the main story of that episode.

Destruction

Potty has been damaged and/or destroyed on multiple occasions, but always returns in the next scene/episode. In "Christmas Who?" Patchy cuts the strings that Potty is attached to, causing him to fall to the ground. Later in that same episode, Patchy pulls on the strings, causing what seems to be a cast member to fall from the ceiling. Again in the same episode, Potty had eaten so much cookie dough that his entire body falls from the weight, leaving only his head intact. At the end of the "Patchy's Pick" segment from "Shanghaied", Potty is blown up by dynamite, which again causes his whole body to fall, including his head.

Patchy the Pirate

Patchy the Pirate, is a live-action character appearing in many SpongeBob SquarePants specials and major events, as the "host" of these. He is the president of the SpongeBob SquarePants Fan Club and is portrayed by SpongeBob's voice actor, Tom Kenny.
He resides in a small home in Encino, California. His bedroom is filled with SpongeBob-themed items such as plush toys, collectibles, bedspreads, and pillows. He also wears SpongeBob underwear. He has a pet parrot, Potty, a string puppet whose strings are clearly shown and is known for poorly being controlled by the puppeteer. They tend to not get along, such as in "Ugh" where they fight over whether prehistory or the future is better. His next door neighbor, an elderly woman named Mrs. Johnson, has been known to make cookies for him, and he requests they be put in a doggy bag. He says he became president of the Fan Club by electing himself and accepting graciously.
Patchy is a stereotypical, intentionally corny pirate character. He has an eyepatch and hook, which he frequently switches between eyes/hands. Patchy also has a black beard and wears a hat and other pirate accessories. In "The Sponge Who Could Fly," it is inferred that he must remove his hook and peg leg in order to take a shower. Patchy even has a spare foot, for when he goes outside. He is able to recover from virtually any injury, including being shot out of a cannon and being bit by a dinosaur. While normally friendly, Patchy is easily angered, especially by Potty.
The live-action segments featuring Patchy and Potty typically appear at the beginning and end of the show, as well as immediately before or after commercial breaks. Patchy has appeared in "Christmas Who?," "Shanghaied," "Party Pooper Pants," "The Sponge Who Could Fly," "Ugh," "Friend or Foe," "Atlantis Squarepantis,"‎ "Truth or Square," and wraparounds in the "Legends of Bikini Bottom" special event. He was also in the big time rush special Big Time Beach Party. A logo sequence featuring Patchy appears at the start of "Have You Seen This Snail?," "Pest of the West," and "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?," identifying the episode as "a SpongeBob SquarePants special." Often, these segments will reflect the theme of the SpongeBob episode; in "Ugh," Patchy attempts to host the show in a prehistoric setting but is invaded by Potty's futuristic technology, and in "Friend or Foe," Patchy and Potty work in a fast food restaurant where they end up becoming enemies.
Apart from special episodes themselves, Patchy has appeared in several Nickelodeon special events. Leading up to the premiere of "Have You Seen This Snail," Patchy and Tony Hawk look for Gary by following a slime trail. Patchy ended up on Friday Night Slimetime, while Tony ended up in Times Square. Patchy hosted the Best Day Ever marathon on a boat in New York City harbor. In his opinion, New York City is the best city ever. While hosting the marathon, he played chess with his teddy bear (and lost), read magazines (including one about Jessica Alba), and wrote in his diary with a seahorse pen. He also revealed that he had an extreme childhood fear of seahorses, and thereby was frightened by his pen. He also read books, drank hot cocoa, and ate cookies. He later fell asleep at midnight, and missed #85, "Shell of a Man." He is still asleep after this episode, with his hook in his mouth. In the middle of the night, Patchy woke up to announce #61, "Suds" and came up the excuse that he was "resting his eyes". However, he was mumbling and stumbling over his words in the process as a sign that he was half-asleep and, ironically, skipped numbers 62-73. After that he went back to sleep and did not fully wake up until after #43, "Nature Pants," when his alarm clock rang at 8 a.m. He had Pirate Flakes cereal and Orange Juice for breakfast. He also got a back massage, and told the viewers about the Empire State Building. Patchy hosted the Z to A countdown from the Bahamas starting at 5:00 p.m. on November 12, 2007. It was revealed that he cannot swim, but he still went through with an underwater talk show to present "Atlantis SquarePantis." In The Ultimate SpongeBob SpongeBash, Patchy is the DJ at the "party." Also, Patchy appeared in the Big Time Rush special: Big Time Beachparty, as a treasure hunting pirate. It is revealed that Patchy is a big fan of Big Time Rush, revealed behind the scenes of Big Time Beach Party.

French Narrator

The French Narrator (captions on TV call it as Narrator or French Man is some episodes) is a man with a heavy French accent who speaks at the beginning, and sometimes middle and/or end, of most episodes. His only physical appearance was in "No Free Rides", where he got run over by SpongeBob. The French narrator is based on Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the world-famous sealife expert who died in 1997. On the November 16, 2004 episode of Fresh Air with Terry Gross, Tom Kenny admitted that Cousteau was the inspiration for the French narrator, as SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg considers Cousteau an idol. The voice of the French Narrator is done by Tom Kenny, who also does the voices of SpongeBob SquarePants and Gary the Snail, among others. In "Can You Spare A Dime?", a time card with the text "So much later that the old narrator got tired of waiting and they had to hire a new one," being read by an unknown narrator with an English accent, is shown, jokingly claiming that the French Narrator quit. However, this was not permanent.

Squilliam Fancyson

Squilliam Fancyson III is Squidward's arch-rival whom he met in high school band class. He appears in the episodes "Band Geeks", "Squilliam Returns", "House Fancy", "Professor Squidward", "I Heart Dancing", "Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful", and "Back to the Past". He is a very wealthy, snooty, unibrow-endowed squid who has succeeded in everything Squidward has failed in and thus looks down upon him. Squidward is painfully jealous and constantly attempts to show Squilliam he's not a loser, with varying results. Like other squid/octopus characters, Squilliam's character model is nearly identical to Squidward, but he has a unibrow and he wears a fancy maroon robe. He owns a private yacht, a private lake, a private heliport, a private island, and a balloon/casino. He owns a fancy house which made an appearance in the TV show House Fancy. Squilliam is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Squilliam's first appearance was in "Band Geeks", where he challenged Squidward to play his band at the Bubble Bowl, as his own band could not make it. However, at the end of the episode, Squilliam arrives at the Bubble Bowl anyway to watch Squidward fail (which may imply that he was just setting up Squidward to make a fool of himself), but upon seeing the band's surprisingly good performance, Squilliam appears to have a heart attack and is rushed to the hospital on a stretcher.
Squilliam returns in the aptly named episode "Squilliam Returns", where Squidward tells him that he is the owner of a five-star restaurant in an attempt to show him up.
Although Squilliam is initially impressed by SpongeBob's newfound fine dining expertise, Squidward is ultimately humiliated when SpongeBob cannot remember his own name and goes insane and destroys the restaurant. In "House Fancy", Squilliam's ridiculously luxurious house is featured on the TV show of the same name. The house features, among other things, a golden toilet, an elevator with a built-in hot tub, and a massive sculpture of his unibrow made entirely out of gilded doorknobs. Squidward's jealousy once again gets the better of him when he calls the show's host, Nicholas Whithers, claiming that his house is better than Squilliam's. Although Squidward's house is destroyed as a result of his attempts to make it fancier, Whithers sees his destroyed house as a work of art and proclaims it to be better than Squilliam's. Squilliam breaks down and falls over, in tears, as he is once again upstaged by Squidward.
In "Professor Squidward", he is shown to teach music at Bikini Bottom University. When Squilliam is absent, Squidward claims to be him so that he can teach the class himself. Squilliam also appears at the end of "I Heart Dancing", where, after Squidward is given the part of a line dancer for Squilliam, he begins to abusively train him in the same manner that Squidward did to SpongeBob. In "Back to the Past", he is seen putting up a sign in Bikini Bottom when Manray took over.

Personality

Squilliam is a rich, fancy, prissy squid with a unibrow. He acts more mature than Squidward, but makes no secret of the fact that he considers himself superior to others due to his enormous wealth. Despite his selfish personality, he somehow makes friends easily (probably for letting people in his private jet, yacht, airship/casino, etc). He is a mean, selfish, and arrogant octopus who takes great pleasure in asserting his perceived superiority over middle-class citizens like his archrival Squidward. He also speaks in a very mocking tone, placing great emphasis on his low regard for Squidward and an equally large amount of inflated praise in his lavish lifestyle.
Like Squidward, Squilliam is a narcissist. He considers himself (and his "big and valuable" unibrow) to be undeniably handsome.
Due to the fact that he looks similar to Squidward, some fans have it rumored that Squilliam is, in fact, a relative of Squidward's, though this is probably false as other squid characters share the same appearance. However, the two seem to share the same traits and qualities: they are both narcissists, they both hate Patrick, play the clarinet, have interest in arts, and have the same house design.

Appearance

Squilliam is a small octopus with six tentacles (similar to Squidward). He wears a red and black gown and has an ascot. Squillam has a large black unibrow on his forehead. He has had it in every episode. In Band Geeks, he shows pride in it when he calls it "big and valuable". In Professor Squidward, his unibrow is how the police told him apart from Squidward Tentacles. In the episode House Fancy, Squillam had a large replica of his unibrow that was made of 500 solid gold painted doorknobs. In Back to the Past, his face was made of armor. In Squilliam Goes to Jail, his unibrow is formed into a devils hair while his tentacles are similar to Squidward's fighting attacks of pain.

Larry the Lobster

Larry The Lobster is a muscular red lobster who is a common patron and lifeguard of Bikini Bottom's popular beach, Goo Lagoon. He is voiced by Doug Lawrence. Larry first appeared in the episode "Ripped Pants". Although he appears in many episodes, Larry is a relatively minor character in the series, usually relegated to minor or background roles.
Larry is a bodybuilder and is often seen competing or working out. He is always seen in his swim trunks, even when not at the beach, similar to Patrick. He regularly goes to Bikini Bottom's beach, The Goo Lagoon, and works as a lifeguard there, as seen most notably in "SpongeGuard on Duty". Larry is one of the strongest creatures in Bikini Bottom, possibly second only to Sandy Cheeks, of whom he is a good friend. Larry is very popular and is idolized by many other beachgoers. In "Band Geeks", it is stated that Larry's heart once gave out from too many tanning pills, and in "Roller Cowards" he is revealed to have a bad armpit odor that is caused by adrenaline. Larry has also run for Bikini Bottom president against Patrick Star. His campaign slogan is "Do you want a president that does not drool when he thinks? Vote for Larry!" Despite this, he lost to Patrick unanimously by 100% of the votes. Larry's implied parents appear in "SpongeGuard on Duty". However, they are not lobsters, they are generic "old person" character models. Larry kicks his own parents off of the beach for being too "old and unsightly", in an ironically polite manner.
Larry appears in the video games "SpongeBob SquarePants: Employee of the Month", "Lights, Camera, Pants!","Battle for Bikini Bottom"and"The Yellow Avenger".

Personality

He is a bro and orderly lobster, he also takes pride in being a lifeguard, knowing that he is the only thing separating the Bottomites from a Watery grave. He was angry in Bubble Buddy, and A Life in a Day, for a good reason. He even kicked his parents out for being old, but so politely they did not take offense to it.

Flying Dutchman

The Flying Dutchman is a recurring character in SpongeBob SquarePants. He is a green pirate ghost who haunts Bikini Bottom. He expresses a dislike for the tradition in which others dress up as him for Halloween and claims that it "turns the Flying Dutchman name into a laughing stock".

Appearance

The Flying Dutchman has a green glow around him, yellow eyes with black irises, scraggly beard, pirate hat with a chunk taken out, a handbag marked "Souls", droopy nose, coat, little pigtails, and ghostly tail, and also speaks with a Scottish Pirate accent. He has a sister named Sally Dutchman.

Mermaid Man And Barnacle Boy

Mermaid Man, real name Ernie, is a semi-retired superhero living in Bikini Bottom. He and his sidekick, Barnacle Boy, are the stars of a show-within-a-show called The Adventures of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, but they are also real superheroes within the universe of SpongeBob SquarePants. The two are now very old, and currently reside at Shady Shoals Rest Home. However, their two biggest fans, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star, convinced them to come out of retirement. He is voiced by Ernest Borgnine

Description

Mermaid Man is a parody of both Aquaman and Batman. He wears a nearly identical costume, and his powers, which include being able to control the creatures of the sea, are also similar to those of Aquaman. Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy's TV show and method of fighting crime are based on the campy 60's Batman TV show, their secret headquarters, the Mermalair, is a parody of the Batcave, and their vehicle, the "Invisible Boat-Mobile" is a parody of both the Batmobile and Wonder Woman's invisible jet. Of note he and Barnacle Boy are virtually completely human in appearance, save they are the same size as the other characters of SpongeBob SquarePants.
Kyle (Tim) "Barnacle Boy" Barnacle Cook has been the sidekick of Mermaid Man. He is voiced by Emmy Award-winning comedian and actor, Tim Conway. He, along with Mermaid Man, are superheroes. He is a parody of both Aqualad and Robin. Barnacle Boy was said to be 68 years old in "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V".

Childhood

Kyle "Barnacle Boy" was born in the local Bikini Bottom Hospital. Barnacle Boy was extremely poor as a child, and his father couldn't afford to keep food on the table. He was often bullied at school, and nobody would sit next to him at lunch.
Barnacle Boy is thin, bald, has large nose similar to and bigger than Squidward's, has puffy ears, a black mask and a turquoise neckerchief. He also wears dark blue rubber gloves, boots, a red T-shirt, and rubber black shorts. Being younger, he is more sane and self-aware than Mermaid Man. However, Barnacle Boy is also more cranky and rude. He often calls Mermaid Man an "old coot". He is revealed to be 68 years old in Mermaidman and Barnacleboy V. As younger self, instead of a black mask, he wears glasses and is much taller. Also, as younger self, his neckerchief is space-control.
Barnacle Boy possesses powers similar to Mermaid Man, though he lacks the belt powers. Barnacle Boy also has "Sulfur Vision" (a form of heat vision), which Mermaid Man has never been shown to have. Like Mermaid Man, his powers do not work as well as they used to.
Despite being a senior citizen, Barnacle Boy is still treated like a child by his mentor, much to his disdain. In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V", when Mermaid Man orders a Pipsqueak Patty (a very small version of a Krabby Patty intended for children) for Barnacle Boy at the Krusty Krab, they get into an argument which ultimately results in Barnacle Boy becoming a villain and forming a group called "E.V.I.L." (Every Villain Is Lemons) with Man Ray and the Dirty Bubble. After a protracted fight with Mermaid Man and the "International Justice League of Super Acquaintances (whose costumes and powers are assumed by the main characters of the show), which E.V.I.L. actually wins, he and Mermaid Man patch things up. Barnacle Man, as he likes to be called, gets a little more respect now (even though he mentions that an adult-sized Krabby Patty actually is too big for him).
In the video game Battle for Bikini Bottom, it is revealed that Barnacle Boy has a son, a daughter-in-law, and four "screaming" grandchildren.

Pearl Krabs

Pearl Latoya Krabs is a character in SpongeBob SquarePants. Although she is a whale and her father is a crab, it is not clear whether she was adopted, or if her mother is a whale, although the trivia book implies that she had a mother who was a whale. Pearl loves the band "Boys Who Cry", acts like a typical teenage girl, and has a dream to become a Cheerleader or an actress, but is denied because of her weight. She is very spoiled by her father, Mr. Krabs, which makes him upset. Pearl was 16 in Whale of A Birthday.

Appearance

Pearl is a whale with blonde hair in a constant ponytail, big blue eyes and a large, rectangular head. She commonly wears a pink shirt with a dark pink letter P, which stands for Pearl, as well as a dark pink skirt and white boots. The episodes "The Chaperone" and "Whale of a Birthday" feature her with a light pink dress and a tiara on. When in this outfit, the hair holder that keeps her hair in a ponytail changes color from dark pink to light pink. She almost always has on reddish-pink lipstick in the shape of a heart on her lips.

Mrs. Puff

Mrs. Poppy Puff is a boating School Driving instructor who teaches students (including SpongeBob) at Mrs. Puff's Boating School. SpongeBob has attended the school ever since its opening, and has failed his final driving exam countless times, often injuring Mrs. Puff and/or damaging the school in the process. Mrs. Puff hates teaching SpongeBob more than anything in her ocean world.
SpongeBob SquarePants, Mrs. Puff's longest-standing student, is the bane of her existence. His distracting personality, reckless driving and inability to improve torment her to no end. SpongeBob has failed his driving test countless times, often sending Mrs. Puff to the hospital and causing immense property damage in the process. On multiple occasions, she has been sent to jail as a result of his actions. To make matters worse, SpongeBob has failed to come to terms with the reality that he cannot learn to drive properly, largely due to his boundless optimism. Due to this, she and Squidward Tentacles are on very good terms for good or evil, since SpongeBob is also Squidward's bane of existence, so she has someone to relate to. However, in comparison to Squidward, she is much kinder to SpongeBob (probably stemming from their teacher/student relationship); for example, while Squidward usually tells SpongeBob face-to-face that he hates him, Mrs. Puff has at least tried to hide her fury. Also, she has even acted nice to SpongeBob on some occasions, like in the episode Krusty Love, she showed no annoyance or anything negative to him, except when she screamed in horror when she thought they were doing the boating test, and the second time, when she's on her second date with Mr. Krabs, he states SpongeBob is helping him tonight, she says slightly worried, "Just a second. I need to go call my insurance agent."

Personality

Mrs. Puff is very paranoid and erratic, and has had a history of mental instability. In "No Free Rides", it is implied that she has had to move to another town and start a new life with a new name in the past. While this is mostly caused by SpongeBob's antics, it is possible that some of it is caused by loneliness she suffers from after her husband was killed by humans and made into a lamp.
At the beginning of the series, Mrs. Puff seemed to not be so optimistic towards SpongeBob and actually treated him like a close friend, save a few moments when SpongeBob crashed during the course. However, as the series has progressed, Mrs. Puff seems to have developed an intense hatred of him, and can even get a fit of mental instability by just looking at him. This could be because of the fact that SpongeBob becomes more troublesome as the series progresses, and has caused Mrs. Puff great trouble lately. Her thoughts and fear about SpongeBob cause her to think that she was giving SpongeBob a driving test even though they are not at school. This occasion happened at "Krusty Love."
In the episode "Doing Time" when Mrs. Puff, thinking she is about to die, says "Where did I go wrong?" The scene then cuts to a flashback of Mrs. Puff, presumably at the opening of her school, saying "...as long as a student is willing to learn, I shall never give up." Right after she says this, SpongeBob appears and introduces himself to her.
In the episode "Mrs. Puff, You're Fired", Mrs. Puff is fired by her boss, Mr. Fitz, who holds her responsible for SpongeBob's repeated failures. However, she is rehired at the end of the episode.

Bubble Bass

Bubble Bass is an obese bass who has appeared in a few of the earlier episodes and an new episode Plankton's Good Eye. He wears an orange tanktop and glasses. His lips and other parts of his body are darker green. He has a bit of speech impediment and breathes very deeply.

History

Bubble Bass' most significant appearance was in "Pickles," when he asks for a Krabby Patty from the Krusty Krab, and it becomes clear that SpongeBob and Bubble Bass have met before, and that Bubble Bass is merely looking to test SpongeBob's fry cook skills. When Bubble Bass tests a Krabby Patty, and shows to everyone that SpongeBob forgot to put pickles on it, he causes SpongeBob to go into a state of shock, and forces him to take time off, claiming he has forgotten how to make Krabby Patties altogether. Since the order wasn't what he asked for he gets his money refunded and leaves al the while Mr Krabs grabs his ankles and begs him not to take the money.
However, SpongeBob later achieves his confidence back and resumes his role as fry cook when Bubble Bass returns once again. Again, he orders a Krabby Patty from SpongeBob with pickles, which SpongeBob delivers, only to hear Bubble Bass claim that there are no pickles yet again. However, SpongeBob realizes that Bubble Bass had been hiding the pickles underneath his tongue the entire time, from both Krabby Patties to avoid paying. At the mercy of the angry customers, Bubble Bass makes a break for it before they can punish him for his deceit. He also had a woman's car keys under his tongue.
Bubble Bass makes a minor appearance in "F.U.N.," where he "accidentally" sits on Plankton, and digs himself deeper into the seat when Sppongebob tells him what he'd done with an evil smile, and later confused PLankton him for a jellybean and chases him about his hand when he starts running. Bubble Bass also made an appearance in Fools in April, but had a very minor role. He was shown when SpongeBob got tricked by Squidward and ran into his butt and made a large square indent. Though, instead of Bubble Bass being a green color he was brown.
In Plankton's Good Eye, he fell out of a window (his house was burning) and crushed Plankton again. He was also there when SpongeBob gave Plankton the "Great Big Hug".

Gary the Snail

Gary the Snail is a character in the Nickelodeon series, Spongebobs Squarepants and is the pet of SpongeBob. He is known to love books and other educational stuff and is more mature than Squidward. He also hates taking baths as shown in "Gary Takes a Bath".
SpongeBob SquarePants, which first aired on May 1, 1999. In the television series, Gary is SpongeBob's loyal pet, although his behavior in several aspects resembles a snail. As revealed in "Rule of Dumb", Gary is the rightful king of Bikini Bottom and is related to Patrick. Gary is shown to be very bored and massively cheeky, although, being a pet, he lacks the communication skills to convey this. In Gary's dream in "Sleepy Time", he is able to talk, has a humanoid body, and resides in a massive library.

Appearance

Gary has a blue body and green-yellow slime and eye stalks, big green eyes, red irises and black pupils, and a orange/pink-peach shell with purple spots and red swirl and a large tumor in his lower stomach area. He has what looks like to be a room under his shell, which he has said to have had a New Years Eve party.

Early life

Information regarding Gary's early life is limited to that he lived with SpongeBob while the latter lived in his parents' house, which is implied in "Home Sweet Pineapple." Also, young SpongeBob and young Gary are featured in SpongeBob's scrapbook in the episode "Have You Seen This Snail?"
In the episode "Rule of Dumb", it is revealed that Gary is the rightful king of Bikini Bottom and Patrick's cousin, although interestingly snails and starfish are very far off from each other on the evolutionary line.

Plankton

Sheldon James Plankton is Mr. Krabs' nemesis and the second antagonist in the SpongeBob SquarePants series. He was the main antagonist in the movie, "The Great Patty Caper," "SpongeBob's Last Stand," "Truth or Square," "Atlantis SquarePantis," and "Frozen Face Off" and a protagonist villain in episodes he leads/really focusing to him and a non-villain in episodes when he wasn't portrayed as an antagonist/villain.
He operates a struggling restaurant called the Chum Bucket, located directly across the street from the Krusty Krab. His primary goal in the series is to steal the Krabby Patty recipe and put Mr. Krabs out of business. Plankton succeeds at stealing the recipe in the movie, but his goal of world domination is thwarted by SpongeBob. In "Friend or Foe," it was revealed that Mr. Krabs and Plankton were once best friends, but a dispute over the Krabby Patty recipe ended their friendship.

Biography

Plankton has spent a long period of time trying to destroy the Krusty Krab, a franchise owned and operated by Mr. Krabs. He's married to a computer named Karen. He always comes short of getting the Krabby Patty formula.

Early life and career

Plankton's best friend from birth was his future rival Mr. Krabs. This history was revealed in "Friend or Foe." Plankton and Krabs were considered outcasts by other kids because Krabs was poor and Plankton was a nerd. When they discovered that money could bring them out of their poverty, they decided to make money selling hamburger patties, and set up a mini-restaurant in the local dump. At first, their burgers weren't successful; the first of their patties was tried by Old Man Jenkins, who was knocked out by the contaminated burger. Plankton started complaining about how Jenkins had been old and not able to handle the patty. Offended by this, Krabs tried to take the recipe from Plankton to improve upon. Plankton wanted to do this himself, but he only ended up with the corner of the recipe, which read: "And a pinch of chum." Plankton stormed out of the restaurant, and went to create his own recipe, using only his memory, the corner of the recipe, and science. At school, Plankton tried to sell his chum burgers in a chum bucket and failed, when Krabs succeeded with his Krabby Patties, which he had created by accident when Plankton had slammed the door. Ingredients fell in the patty batter, thus creating the patty. Plankton later named his restaurant the Chum Bucket, after the secret ingredient of the original unsuccessful patty recipe. Mr. Krabs named his restaurant the Krusty Krab. To this very day, Plankton has been single-mindedly obsessed with obtaining the Krabby Patty formula and running the Krusty Krab out of business, often going to incredible and often ridiculous lengths to do so; in "SpongeBob's Last Stand," for example, he builds a massive highway that goes straight through Jellyfish Fields and over the Krusty Krab, leading right to his restaurant simply to do so.
In "Dunces and Dragons," it was implied that the fight between Plankton and Krabs began centuries ago when Plankton's evil overlord ancestor Planktonamor was vanquished by a Krabby Patty. Since there's not any feud between Krabs and Plankton in their early childhood, it's possible that these families settled their differences until the childhoods of Krabs and Plankton.
In a comic story, Krabs and Plankton are shown to have been college roommates. Their rivalry is shown to have been caused by a series of things, including Plankton being stepped on by Mr. Krabs (which didn't annoy him at all), being closed inside Mr. Krabs' book (which aggravated him a little), and Mr. Krabs going out with his date and Plankton's date (which started their rivalry). Since it was revealed in "Friend or Foe" that they were rivals earlier than college, this story is likely non-canon. Even in the present day of the series, Krabs and Plankton are occasionally shown to somewhat get along, such as in "New Leaf" and "Best Frenemies."
Plankton's restaurant, the Chum Bucket, has always been extremely unsuccessful, not only because of competition from the Krusty Krab and Plankton's rude and cruel treatment of the people in Bikini Bottom, but also due to the extremely poor quality of the food and Plankton's constant failure to clean the place up. As its name implies, the Chum Bucket serves chum-based foods, all of which taste terrible. In "Plankton's Regular", the Krusty Krab adds chum to its menu in an attempt to steal Plankton's single regular customer (who was in reality being paid by Karen to eat at the Chum Bucket and pretend to like the food there). The customer is disgusted by their chum, and says that it is the second foulest thing he has ever tasted (it can be inferred that Plankton's chum is the number one worst). This implies that chum is inherently disgusting, and cannot be made to taste good, although is shown to be false in the Season 7 episode "Greasy Buffoons." Plankton used excess grease from the Krusty Krab's grease trap that was dumped near the Chum Bucket to make his sales skyrocket (although it is unknown if this made the chum taste good, as Plankton could have been lying, and his customers could have been tasting only the grease, as the flavor could have covered up the chum's flavor).
It should be noted that in real life, chum is made of grounded up fish parts that are inedible to humans, such as heads and guts, and is used as bait for sharks and similar creatures. This would mean that Plankton is killing fish (or at least collecting dead fish) and serving their remains to other fish. This has only ever been touched upon in "The Krabby Kronicle," where SpongeBob prints a story claiming this. However, SpongeBob was being tricked by Mr. Krabs into printing absurd lies to appeal to customers, and this story was supposedly false. It also possible, that in the alternate reality the show takes place in, chum might be made of something completly different (although still likely disgusting), like in the episode Spongicus, Plankton named of many weird things that make up his chum, and fish parts was not on the list.
Plankton has no regular employees, and runs the Chum Bucket entirely by himself, although he spends most of his time in his laboratory, due to having no customers. Plankton actually runs the restaurant only when he has potential customers. Also, when he does have customers, he also uses artificialy intelligent machines to cover the other positions.
Although it has been stated on multiple occasions that Plankton has never had a single customer, he has on several occasions had brief success, particularly in more recent episodes, such as "Spongicus" and "Chum Caverns." A fan once wrote to Stephen Hillenberg, questioning that, due to Plankton being a genius in the fields of robotics, inventions, and technology (including many other fields), why Plankton dosn't sell computers and the like instead of fast food (which would actually probably bring him much better success)? Hillenberg answered this with that Plankton has never gone this route, simply due to him having never thought of it before, and also due to the fact that Plankton is slightly incompetent, and also that he has terrible communication skills, he would probably ignore the person's idea until the last minute.

Family with Plankton and King Neptune

Plankton's "wife" is his computer system Karen, even though neither of them fully consider the other their true soulmate, and their relationship is a very troubled one, although it was slightly mended by the events of the episode, ((Komputer Overload)). Being a microscopic organism, Plankton's biological family numbers in the thousands. In "Plankton's Army", he recruits his entire family to help him steal the formula, thinking them all to be criminal masterminds like himself. However, much to his surprise, his family consists entirely of uneducated, red-necked hillbillies. These Relatives include (but are not limited to): Clem Plankton, Zeke Plankton, Rufus Plankton, Jeke Plankton, Billy Bob Plankton, Billy Jim Plankton, Billy Billy Bo Willy Banana Fanna Fo Filly Plankton, Doug Plankton, Ennis Plankton, and Rainchild Plankton, the only ones named.
Plankton has two known ancestors. One is the evil wizard Planktonamor, who lived during medieval times and appeared in "Dunces and Dragons". Another is Dead Eye Plankton, a wealthy citizen who attempted a hostile takeover of Bikini Gulch but was defeated by Sheriff SpongeBuck SquarePants. Dead Eye Plankton lived during the Wild-West era and appeared in "Pest of the West".

Eugene H. Krabs

Eugene Harold Krabs (born November 30, 1942 ), better known as simply Mr. Krabs or called Krabs by Plankton is a red seacrab who is the owner of the Krusty Krab as well as the employer of both Spongebob Squarepants and Squidward Tentacles. Creator Stephen Hillenburg describes Krabs as another primary antagonist of the series. He is extremely greedy, selfish and quite literally obsessed with money itself. Mr. Krabs is mostly respected by SpongeBob, while Squidward tends to loathe him. Mr. Krabs' greed in the series is exaggerated with him often anthropomorphizing money. He will do almost anything to obtain money or not lose it, usually with no regard to the safety or well-being of others or even himself. His arch-nemesis and business rival is Sheldon J. Plankton, who was his friend in their childhood but now constantly attempts to steal the Krabby Patty Secret Formula. Mr. Krabs has a daughter, a sperm whale named Pearl. Since the beginning of the series, Mr. Krabs' overall characterization has become more and more negative, to the point that Stephen Hillenburg himself once said in an interview that he and Plankton are both the primary antagonists (in some episodes) of the show, with Mr. Krabs being just as bad, if not worse than, Plankton himself.

Biography

Mr. Krabs' manhood began after the war, where he was secluded in deep depression that seemed endless. His luck changed when he bought a local retirement home, "The Rusty Krab," which he decided to turn into a restaurant, adding a K to "Rusty," thus making it the Krusty Krab. He decided to go into business, selling his family's Krabby Patty burgers. The Krusty Krab was extremely successful from the beginning, and has for years stood as Bikini Bottom's premiere daytime eatery.
Mr. Krabs' arch business rival is his one-time friend Plankton, who owns a restaurant called "The Chum Bucket" literally right across the street from the Krusty Krab. Plankton, a mad scientist, and a technological and scientific genius, constantly attempts to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula, frequently utilizing his various robots and other creations. Occasionally, Plankton uses other tactics besides stealing the formula in order to hinder Krabs and attract customers to himself. However, all of Plankton's schemes are doomed to fail, and are constantly thwarted by Krabs, with help from SpongeBob, Patrick, and other allies. On multiple occasions Plankton is stated to never have had a single actual customer (However, in some recent episodes, such as "Chum Caverns", Plankton's plots do give him brief success).
In "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie", Mr. Krabs opens The Krusty Krab 2, right next door to the original. He chooses Squidward to manage the restaurant, much to SpongeBob's dismay. However, in the end of the movie, (After SpongeBob saves Bikini Bottom and Mr. Krabs' life), he is appointed new manager of the Krusty Krab 2. In "Squilliam Returns", Mr. Krabs works as the Chef in Squidward's fancy new version of the Krusty Krab, but is apparently a terrible cook, creating a disgusting and freakish "appetizer", which eventually comes to life and begins attacking the restaurant's patrons.

Sandy Cheeks

Sandra "Sandy" Cheeks is one of the main protagonists of the series. She is the only female character.
She is a squirrel and SpongeBob's best friends. Sandy is notable for her Texan characteristics and knowledge of Karate and science.

Description

Sandy comes from the state of Texas, she was actually born in Houston, Texas but she exhibits many characteristics of a stereotypical "cowgirl" character by going to every city in Texas. She speaks with a heavy southern accent, and uses typical southern slang words and phrases. She is very fond of her homeland and its culture, as most notably seen in the episode "Texas," in which she grows homesick for it and considers leaving Bikini Bottom to return to Texas. In that same episode, she takes great offense at SpongeBob and Patrick's negative remarks about Texas, and violently attacks them when they continue to insult it.
Sandy is one of the most intelligent and level-headed characters on the show. She is a multi-talented scientist and inventor, and originally came to Bikini Bottom to study sea creatures and their lifestyles. In "Chimps Ahoy", it is revealed that she is employed by a trio of chimpanzees from the surface, named Dr. Marmalade, Lord Reginald and Professor Percy. As an inventor, Sandy is capable of creating extremely advanced devices with ease. Her inventions include a manned space ship, a teleporter, a submarine that can shrink to microscopic size and go inside a person(squidward)'s body, and even a cloning device.
Sandy is also very athletic and physically fit. She and SpongeBob share a favorite pastime of Karate, and frequently fight each other for fun. The karate they use appears to be stylized to fit that of "play karate", as they both mainly fight with chops and kicks in a cartoonish manner. There also appears to be other forms of fighting in the series, most notably in Karate Island, where three other fish demonstrate unique fighting styles, (which looks more like stylized versions of Kung Fu rather than Karate).
Sandy also enjoys extreme sports and thrill-seeking, which SpongeBob also joins her in on occasion, most notably in "Prehibernation Week". Sandy possesses immense strength, and is one of the strongest creatures in Bikini Bottom. She is often seen at Mussel Beach lifting weights with Larry the Lobster, of whom she is a good friend, and other muscular fish. In "MuscleBob BuffPants," Sandy shows SpongeBob her immense biceps and intense daily exercise routine. In that same episodes, she wins the eighth annual Goo Lagoon anchor toss competition, tossing an enormous anchor 510 yards.

Relationships

Sandy first met SpongeBob SquarePants when he saw her wrestling a giant clam and ran down to save her. Since then, Sandy has been one of SpongeBob's best friends, and she enjoys various activities such as karate with him. She is also good friends with Patrick, although she is often annoyed and angered by his stupidity. Sandy is also friends with Larry the Lobster. The nature of Sandy's relationship with SpongeBob is somewhat romantic. SpongeBob has brought her flowers on several occasions, and her official biography describes her as being "the apple of SpongeBob's eye (the only thing under the sea he likes better than his job at the Krusty Krab)". In "Tea at the Treedome" amorous music plays when SpongeBob recalls Sandy's words. SpongeBob's song in "Ripped Pants" has romantic lyrics. Many fans believe that Spongebob and Sandy have crushes on each other.
In the "A Random Act of SpongeBob" short, SpongeBob leaves Sandy a letter (with a bouquet of flowers) calling her the "smartest, prettiest squirrel in all of Bikini Bottom" for "Surprise Sandy Day". In the video game Battle for Bikini Bottom, after saving Squidward from Robo-Patrick, SpongeBob and Sandy commented each other on a good job while looking flushed. A book called the SpongeBob SquarePants Survival Guide, released on November 1, 2002, has a page titled How to Survive a Secret Crush, saying that if you have a crush on someone, you have to keep it secret. SpongeBob begins to talk about him acting "perfectly natural" at the treedome, but quickly ends, saying "I've said too much!" The biggest hint was in Truth or Square, which depicted the two getting married.

Habitat

Main article: Treedome
Sandy lives in a huge polyurethane dome known as the "Treedome". It is air-locked and contains no water, making it the only place in Bikini Bottom where Sandy can survive without her suit. Its floor is covered in grass, and features a large tree, which contains Sandy's living quarters. The Treedome also humorously includes a giant hamster wheel, among other backyardish things. As seen in the episodes "Survival of the Idiots" and "Bubble Buddy", the dome produces snow during the winter, from which it can be assumed to simulate other weather patterns as well.
As seen in the episode "Wormy", Sandy has many pets residing in her Treedome, including caterpillars, snakes, crickets, mice, and birds, among others.
The company that owns this and many other treedomes is the Tree Dome Enterprises Limited. Its board of directors, a group of chimps, came for an inspection in "Chimps Ahoy."

Squidward Tentacles

'
Squidward Quincy Tentacles is a deuteragonist on the Nicktoon SpongeBob SquarePants. He is the middle neighbor betweeb SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star. Squidward is a cephalopod. His species is an octopus according the series' creators, despite his name containing "squid". Squidward lives in a house shaped like an Easter Island Head. He works as a Cashier at the Krusty Krab, a job he dislikes. SpongeBob and Patrick consider Squidward their best friend, though the feeling is not mutual. He is a selfish individual and displays an unjustified air of superiority. He also has a large collection of self-portraits and is delusional about his talents (such as playing the clarinet) though nobody around him considers him to be very good. The series' animators illustrated Squidward with six tentacles, believing that giving him the eight tentacles of an octopus has made him look too burdened.

Development

Even though his name is "Squid"ward Tentacles, he is an octopus. This was stated in a twenty minute "behind the scenes" feature of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie DVD with creator Stephen Hillenburg and a few voice actors. The following was quoted by Squidward's voice actor, Rodger Bumpass:
"I am Rodger Bumpass, and I play Squidward'. He's more of an adult, tries to be at least. He's a squid which explains his name."
Also, in another feature on the DVD, entitled "The Case of the SpongeBob," Stephen Hillenburg quotes the following:
"This is Squidward the octopus." Later in the feature, he quotes, "It was easier for animation to draw him with six legs instead of eight."
Squidward's name is a portmanteau of the word "squid" and the name "Edward."

Biography

Squidward was born on October 9, 1977. In his childhood he had to sit near the garbage cans at lunch. When he was an adult, he was part of the Krusty Krab along with Jim and later, after Jim quit, with a fry cook whose name is yet to be revealed. One day, he was planting a garden and a pineapple fell on him and destroyed his garden. A sponge named SpongeBob SquarePants moved into that pineapple and Squidward has been annoyed ever since. The rest of his biography is really long, so you may want to look at his agonistic side, leisure, and near-death experiences sections for more of his biography.

Personality

Squidward Tentacles personality is presented as that of a smart, rude, cynical, and snobbish individual whose style is generally not appreciated by others. He has a sarcastic attitude and sees others as uncivilized morons, while failing to accept his own personal shortcomings. Squidward sees himself as misunderstood and unappreciated, blaming society for his failures. He is annoyingly pretentious in his pursuit of fame and is either unwilling or unable to spot talent and creativity, even belittling it. He lauds "cultivated taste" and accepted standards. In the episode "Artist Unknown", he insists that his pupil SpongeBob "show his method", even when it's painfully clear that SpongeBob is creating works of artistic genius. In the episode Bubblestand, he belittles SpongeBob's brilliant bubble-blowing. Squidward is also jealous of those who are more artistic than him, for example: Nat Peterson, SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Squilliam Fancyson and even the puppet Big Nose.
Squidward is generally portrayed as an overall failure. His musical skills with the clarinet are generally portrayed as subpar, from mediocre to excruciatingly horrible. However, In Best Day Ever, he has a concert where he plays beautifully and receives thunderous applause from the audience. SpongeBob was on the VIP list for it. His overall artistic style is shown to be abstract and overly sophisticated, and his works are commonly panned by his audiences. His critical failure is shown to be more due to his bad taste rather than a genuine lack of talent. It is worth noting that the majority of his art narcissistically centers around himself, apparently holding his very being to be an artistic wonder. In "One Krab's Trash", Squidward is shown bringing flowers to a gravestone reading "Here Lies Squidward's Hopes and Dreams." Despite his lack of success, Squidward is tireless in his pursuit of artistic achievement. In "Dunces and Dragons", Squidly, Squidward's medieval ancestor, vowed that if he couldn't learn to play the clarinet right, his seventh great-grandson would be cursed tenfold. In "Squilliam Returns", Squilliam Fancyson mentions that Squidward was voted "Most Likely to Suck Eggs" in high school.
Given how Squidward is depicted as a loser in most regards, it's likely that his 'narcissism' is actually a defense mechanism to make him feel as if he has some form of self-worth.
Outwardly, he in fact shows signs of modest success: he lives in a nice, well-tended house, with no signs of slothfulness, and finds plenty of time to lead an active, involved life.
Squidward is well-educated and knows his history. When at the Krusty Krab, he is a lazy, sloppy employee (as shown in the Krusty Krab Training Video) who has an intense dislike of the Krusty Krab and its management. He is considered "inattentive, impatient, a glazed look in the eye." However, given the management's treatment of the employees his attitude towards the company is more realistic than SpongeBob's. In the episode "Squid on Strike", he organizes a worker's strike at the Krusty Krab. He even causes the destruction of the Krusty Krab, although indirectly and accidentally.
In the episode "Squidville", he moves to a town filled with his own peers, other octopi who share his tastes and outlook on life. Here, he is forced to face how boring and oppressive his desired lifestyle really is, and he is able to ultimately break free of its bonds with a bit of inspired silliness.
Even though Squidward has tentacles, he is shown or implied to have fingers, toes and even nails in episodes such as "Once Bitten", "House Fancy", and "Giant Squidward".
In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V", it is implied that Squidward at one point had a girlfriend when he remembered the good times he had at make-out reef.
In "SpongeBob's Last Stand" he didn't know care about the environment, even when Jellyfish Fields became a wasteland.
